Model Humvee
The immense popularity of the military Humvee, as well as of the civilian Hummers, has naturally led to the manufacturing of a wide range of different model Humvee variants. Some are toys made for children to play with while they wait to grow old enough to drive their own real Humvee or Hummer. Other models are purchased by collecting adults, a new and interesting addition to the traditional hobby of collecting model railways and trains or assembling small model ships. Just like the real Humvees and Hummers, the model Humvee has experienced its fair share of controversy since it began to appear on the scene. Many parents feel that even though the Humvee is not an attack vehicle, it is still strongly associated with war and therefore unsuitable as a toy. The same is held true for the civilian Hummer, since it can trace its ancestry back to the military Humvee. Parents fear that by giving their children military toys, they encourage violence and endorse war as a way of solving problems. Other parents support of the use of the military Humvee in extreme situations such as wartimes, but dislike the gas-guzzling civilian Hummer and do not wish to encourage big car fantasies in their young ones by giving them a model Humvee or model Hummer to play with. A third aspect brought forward in this debate is that by giving our children war toys, we may make it hard for them to realize the seriousness of war. One of the most popular model Humvee variants of today is the remote control Humvee. Some of the remote controlled model Humvee variants are large enough for a kid to ride in, while others are not intended for carrying children around. The most commonly available sizes are 1:6 or 1:18. If you want to make your model Humvee fancier, you can for instance have a cannon mounted on it or attach a TOW-missile. In advanced model Humvee variants, you will actually be able to fire missiles by pressing a button on the remote control. To avoid injury, most model Humvee variants intended for kids use spring systems and the “missiles” will travel at low speed and only go a very short distance. The advanced Airsoft model Humvee variants are usually quite expensive and equipped with an abundance of cool features, such as full drive forward and backwards, supreme agility and impressive properties when it comes to driving in tough terrain. In the most popular models, you can aim the cannon sideways, independent of the direction of the vehicle itself. A laser targeting pointer makes it even easier to hit your target.
