New Humvee – the experimental hybrid Humvee
One of the most interesting new Humvee types is the Diesel-Electric Shadow RST-V. Its formal name is Diesel-Electric Shadow RST-V powertrain, but it is commonly referred to as the new hybrid Humvee since it is rumored to replace the ordinary Humvees. This new Humvee is equipped with no less than four magnet motors and two lithium-ion battery packs. It uses less than 50 percent of the normal Humvee fuel weight, and this makes a huge difference since a typical Humvee, one that can be compared to the civilian Hummer H2, on average uses up roughly 1,000 pounds of fuel per mission. Making the Humvee more environmentally friendly was not the main target for the innovative team behind the new Humvee; their primary goal was to create to vehicle that would be less fuel dependant and thus more reliable in pressed situations.

The new Humvee is equipped with an aluminum body and bullet proof windows. To increase the protection against land mines and small arms, you can install a special armor kit. When this new Humvee operates on battery power alone, it will be extremely silent and very hard to discover for potential attackers. Its thermal signature is also extremely low while in this type of “battery stealth mode”. The Diesel-Electric Shadow RST-V can run over 20 miles on its battery power. 

New Humvee – the Lockheed Martin Corp variant
Lockheed Martin Corp, a company famous for making fighter jets and computer networks, is now experimenting with a new Humvee that may replace the older Humvee models in the U.S. Army. Problems encountered during the Iraqi war have forced the U.S. Army to look for a new and better Humvee, since the current models are comparatively basic and also offer very little protection. The Lockheed Humvee has rigid chassis that will be better equipped to withstand blasts. The chassis is actually quite similar to that found in Formula One racing cars. The Lockheed Martin Corp Humvee is also equipped with computers linked to video cameras, a feature which makes it possible for the vehicles to share their battlefield images. Another interesting feature is an air-suspension system that makes it possible for the new Humvee to adjust its height during cargo loading and while driving in rough terrain.

New Humvee – the Bethesda variant
Bethesda is the main supplier of secure computer networks for the U.S. government, and they are now hoping to win the contract to build the new Humvee. They are working on a Humvee that will have computers hooked into wireless networks. This means that vehicles location, as well as the location of allies, can be easily displayed. This new Humvee will also be equipped with sophisticated communications technology.

If the U.S. Military goes for this new Humvee, they will get a model that can sense and predict part failures. It will also be possible to disable a vehicle that is lost to the enemy and render it useless using a remote control.
