Humvee Models
A Military humvee model.

The military Humvee has undergone many alterations over the years and branched out into a long series of different Humvee models. Every Humvee model is based on the same reliable platform, even though they can look very dissimilar at first glance and carry out highly disparate tasks. If you look closer, you will see that they all share the same type of frame, drive train geometry, lower body, hood and suspension.

In the U.S. Military, the Humvee (HMMWV) models are divided into the M998A0, M998A1 and M998A2 series. The first Humvee model was introduced in 1985. Nearly a decade later, in 1994, the A1 series was released. The A1 was followed by the A2 series one year later. The A1 series contained plenty of internal alterations, and in certain instance the case Humvee model numbers also changed.

Humvee model – the M1097 Heavy HMMWV Avenger

This Humvee model was designed to carry the Avenger Air Defense System, a weapon system offering mobile, short-range air defense protection. The Avenger Air Defense System is used by the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps and offers good protection against helicopters, low-flying fixed wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles. To be able to carry the Avenger Air Defense System, this Humvee model has a reinforced frame, reinforced control arms, special shock absorbers, heavy duty rear springs, heavy duty tires and rims, lifting shackles and crossmembers. The first M1097 model is not the only Humvee model capable of carrying the Avenger Air Defense System, you can of course also use the newer M1097A1 or M1097A2. The M1123 has also been designed to carry the Avenger Air Defense System. All models are slightly longer than the normal Humvee model, since they have another type of bumper.

Humvee model – the M1035A2 Soft Top Ambulance

This Humvee model is used to transport injured away from the battlefield. Unfortunately, it has a 2-litter soft top with no armor protection. In situations that call for stronger protection of victims and crew, other Humvee models, such as the M996A1, M997A1 or M1035A1 is a better choice. The M1035A2 Humvee model is longer than its predecessors the M1035 and the M1035A1, since it has new bumpers. The required 0-30 mph acceleration time is 9.4 seconds, while 0-50 mph takes 26.1 seconds.

The troop seating capacity for the M1035A2 Humvee model is 1+1+2 litter patients. Even a fully loaded M1035A2 Humvee model can climb road grades up to 60% (31°). It can also traverse side slopes of up to 40% (22°). Even without a special deep water fording kit, this Humvee model will take you over water crossings up to 30 inches (76 centimeters), as long as the bottom is hard. If you use the deep water fording kit, you can take on water up to 60 inches (152 centimeters). If you want to, you can install a 9,000 lb winch on the M1035A2 Humvee model. The length of this Humvee model is 182.5 inches (467 centimeters) and the height is 72 inches (183 cm). The gross vehicle weight is 10300 pounds, which equals 4675 kg.
